How Do You Organise A Warehouse Effectively?

How Do You Organise A Warehouse Effectively?

There’s a lot of businesses out there with their own warehouses; a place to keep all of your stock that you can’t fit in the shop, or a place to simply ship your online deliveries from. If you do have access to your own warehouse, that means you’re in charge of how it runs. And sometimes, it’s not quite running efficiently.

A warehouse needs to be organised, and it needs to be organised according to its size and spacing. There’s a lot of company owners out there who try to cram as much in as possible, but that just won’t work out in your favor. You won’t know what you’ve got in stock, you won’t be able to be speedy in your shipping and delivery, and you definitely won’t have health and safety standards in mind.

You Use a Flowing Floor Plan

The floor plan that works its way around your warehouse needs to be followed to the last, tiny detail. You need to know where the spaces are in the warehouse, and where your employees are going to need to move, safely and effectively, on a regular basis. Anyone who’d just bought a house wouldn’t ignore the layout of the rooms when it come to optimising the space they had to decorate, so be sure to follow this same rule with your inventory storage.

For example, if the office is at the back of the space, make sure the tangible assets of your business are stacked up on the other side of the space. Or if the boxing area is in the middle of the warehouse, be sure to weave the storage shelves in pathways around this centerpiece.

You Use Convenient Tech

If you’re looking to get organised in one of the messiest spaces known to man, you’re going to need the right tech on your side. You need forklifts to safely lift your items in bulk, and you need your workers to be dressed in the right attire, like high-vis vests or hard hats. It’s all technology at the end of the day – there’s nothing standard when it comes to health and safety equipment.

Similarly, maybe an industrial control panel would be of use to you here? This way you can wire up your box lifts, to get them moving at the touch of a button. You could even just wire up the lighting and the heating in the warehouse office with the right screen in front of you; that’ll save your staff a lot of time in the morning.

You Optimise Your Storing Solutions

To finish off, a quick point that is forgotten the most: invest in storage that suits your warehouse unit. You buy shelving units and racks that reach the ceiling and go no higher, and aren’t too short either. You need to use all of the space in the warehouse, after all, and that includes the empty air above you.

Warehouses are a great business asset in themselves; make good use of them.

Why Lifelong Learning Should Be Applauded

Why Lifelong Learning Should Be Applauded

It doesn’t matter whether you are fresh out of college, whether you have recently been made redundant, or whether you have had a high flying career for the past two decades, you should never stop learning. The quest for knowledge and renewing your skills is vital if you are to remain at the forefront of your chosen industry sector. You may choose to specialize, work towards an MBA or seek out a new talent wholly unrelated to your current work skill set. Consider your interests, professional acumen and goals in life to set a course for lifelong learning.

Professional Qualifications

If you are wallowing on the middle management rungs of the career ladder, the chances are that your resume is looking a little stale. Without upskilling and partaking in some professional development, you may find that the most recent training you took part in was over five years ago. Employers seeking new members of staff want people who are fresh, full of innovative ideas and have a firm grasp of the latest methodologies appropriate for their jobs.

Think about enrolling in an evening class to brush up on your cybersecurity credentials, take some time out to study at uni part time, or think about reaching for an MBA. With a proven commitment to study, you are showing any potential employers that you are eager for a promotion. Apply your newfound skills in the workplace, and you could become an invaluable asset.

Learning For Pleasure

It’s not always our jobs that dictate how and what we should learn. By looking at the career of a person like Philip McTigue, you can see just how varied life experiences can be. At all points throughout his career, learning was very much at the forefront of his motivations. He undertook a masters degree later on in his career, and is still hungry for a doctorate. You could choose to follow a formal learning path, or you could choose to learn experientially.

Traveling to new countries, meeting new people, observing new cultures and conversing in a different language is learning. You will understand more about the world, have a deeper appreciation for the people and things in it, and you will have changed as a human being. You could choose to take a sabbatical from your job if you feel like you are becoming stuck in a rut, to scratch that wanderlust itch.

Some people don’t want to travel but do have a yearning for more simple pleasures. If you’ve ever fancied trying out a new team sport, go for it. If you want to learn the piano, book yourself a taster lesson. And if you want to become an origami master, enrol on a course. Whatever you want to learn, there will be a way of achieving this. Learning fosters respect, is enjoyable and can make even the drabbest of days feel more worthwhile.

If, after reading this, you are inspired to take a look at your resume, get yourself out of a rut, or phone up your local adult training college, then you are taking your first step along the path of lifelong learning.

“A great employee is like a four-leaf clover. Hard to find and lucky to have.” -Tammy Cohen

Having many customers will ultimately pay the bills.  Having the right employees will increase your customer load, which leads to a prospering company.  Unfortunately, many companies think about how to attract their customers more than attracting the right employees.  Your company is only as good as the employees you have working for you.

Detailed Job Description

It cannot be emphasized enough the importance of having solid job descriptions.  Detail exactly what you are looking for so the ideal candidate lands on your doorstep.  Having a vague job description is going to lead to employees that may or may not be the right candidate for what you are looking for.  Make the job appealing, while still including your full expectations.

Develop a Brand

It is imperative that your company looks attractive to potential employees.  You will get the most qualified talent if your branding attracts their attention.  The personality of your company will determine if it appeals to the best of the best.  Employees need to know that you are going to take care of them and that your company has a solid reputation.

Pay During Training

Ultimately you want to have employees that are perfectionists at their job.  To do that, you need to provide reliable, concrete training to prepare them for the work you expect.  Show them that you value their time by paying them during their training period. This should be something you clearly state on your website and/or your job description.  When you view Get paid while training for CDL, the fact that you are getting paid during your training is the first thing you see on the website.  That is an excellent incentive for dependable employees.

Use Technology in the Hiring Process

People are always on the go these days that you would be crazy not to utilize what technology has to offer to get the best out there.  3 ways technology could improve your hiring process focuses on a few ways that you can attract potential employees.  One important way is to be flexible with your interview days/times.  You don’t want to be stubborn and not provide options for potential candidates.  A possible solution could be video interviews. Top quality candidates will appreciate your flexibility in working with them, and video interviews will allow you to view more candidates without having to schedule people to come in.

Find Someone Committed

Do your due diligence in looking at the background history of your potential employee.  If you have someone who has bounced around from job to job for financial reasons, they are most likely not going to be committed to your company.  You want to find loyal candidates that will help take your company to the next level. The right candidate could be the face of the company. If you can envision that, hire that person.

Finding the right employee can be a difficult task.  You expect them to put in the work to make your company successful.  In turn, you need to put in the work to get the right fit. If you settle for people, you will have a whole host of other problems to contend with in the future.  Put in the time and align yourself with people who will help your company soar to whole new levels.

Reasons To Be Thankful For Our Veterans

Reasons To Be Thankful For Our Veterans

While it’s great that we have a Veteran’s Day to honour our veterans, why is it just the one day? What about the other 364 days of the year? Are they not veterans then? Should we not honour them and be thankful for them every day?

Veterans are expected to go back to civilian life dealing with the mental and physical disabilities they got from their time in the service. There are a lot of people who do try to help them by making care packages for soldiers overseas and helping the veterans in their community. It is because of veterans that we can sit here today with no restrictions on what we can write or say.

Of the 21.4 million Veterans in the USA, still, six-per cent remain unemployed after they leave the service. 3.2 million soldiers have had to leave because of a service-connected disability and a quarter of million veterans enter the civilian world each year. They can fill in a VA form 21-4142 and hopefully get some disability benefits, but is that enough? We all know what happens to a football or basketball star after a career-ending injury, but do we know what happens to our heroes? It is our responsibility as a country to make a gesture of thanks, to remember those who served for us and asked nothing in return. Living under a flag that represents the freedoms so many others across the world are forsaken would be impossible without them.

Thanks to veterans, we are able to fight for the rights of waiters and bar staff and whether they deserve $15 an hour or not and how that will affect our economy.

Because of veterans, our children are able to play outside, and all they have to worry about is whether they can stay up late or have ice cream for dinner.

Sometimes our veterans have no one. We need to support them as far too often they are alone and find it too tough to get through the hard times. Too many good lives are lost because of this.

We need to look out for our veterans because far too many of them are sleeping on the streets while we sleep in our warm beds. They are not seen for the true heroes they are, and our children don’t realise that these people on the streets are the ones they should be looking up to and not down on.

Without support, society will continue to sweep veterans under the carpet as it is easier to hide them than to actually do something to help them, so we must support our veterans.

Most importantly, we need to look out for our veterans because they have been looking out for us our entire lives, and it is the least we can do.

3 Ways Technology Could Improve Your Hiring Process

3 Ways Technology Could Improve Your Hiring Process

Building the right team of experienced professionals is absolutely vital to business success. A business is only as good as its employees and if you aren’t attracting the best talent then you’re going to fall behind the competition. That’s why you need to do everything that you can to improve your hiring process and search for the best people. One of the best ways to improve your hiring process is to invest in the right technology, but a lot of businesses don’t realize that. They’ll spend money on technology to boost their sales and marketing departments and improve their customer service, but when it comes to hiring, they’ll do it the same way that they always have. But if you implement these pieces of technology, you can massively improve your hiring process in so many different ways.

Better Job Descriptions

Job descriptions are sometimes an afterthought for hiring managers but they’re so important. If you’re going to attract the best candidates, they need to be worded in the right way. A lot of people don’t realize how much difference the smallest of changes could make. For example, a lot of job descriptions use language that isn’t always that inclusive and it might put people off if they belong to a minority group. That means you’re losing a lot of potentially great candidates because they simply aren’t applying. The wording of the job description also says a lot about your company and if you don’t get it right, it could give the impression that you’re not a very well established or professional company, and the best candidates won’t like that. But now, you can use some great software that will scan through your job descriptions and highlight any potentially bad words and phrases and suggest better alternatives. Writing the ideal job description is the first step towards attracting the best talent and this technology can help you to do that.

Video Interviews

If you’re trying to get a brilliant candidate on board, the chances are, you’re not the only company that they’re meeting with. They’ll have a lot of offers and they’ll be very busy so sometimes, it’s best to work around them. If you’re not flexible with interview times, they might just decide that you’re not worth their time and accept one of their other offers. That’s why you should invest in HR software that supports video interviews. That way, you can do the interview when it suits them and they’ll be more likely to accept. It also means that you can get through more interviews in a shorter space of time and weed out a lot of the weaker candidates without having to bring them all in.

Headhunting Candidates

A good job description will attract some great candidates, but sometimes, you need to go out and find the best people for the job. There are recruitment agencies out there that will headhunt people for you, but you don’t need to use them anymore because there is a more cost-effective tech solution out there. It will scan through the online profiles of thousands of candidates and, based on your criteria, pick out the best ones for you in no time at all.

If you really want to improve your hiring process and ensure that you have the best team possible, you need to be using these pieces of technology.
